TRUE CONTENTMENT
by Teresa Adams Ware
Sunday April 20, 2008 – North River Community Church Sermon Series on Adopting the Mind of Christ.

I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances………..
is truly a statement
we would all like to claim
I want it to be my claim to fame

But truthfully I’m still learning……….
it’s a constant renewal and returning
to hold to God His powerful hand
to keep my mind focused on Him
to keep in view Christ’s nail pierced hands
in a world that is growing dim

Here’s what I am learning……
and have fixed my aim to apprehend
          The beginning of contentment
is knowing that God loves you
But that’s just the beginning…..
and it’s not as easy as it sounds
Somehow you must become discontented with
the earthly loves you’ve found
Don’t get me wrong…..
You’re not to throw away that dear one
all those that God have given to you
only the loves that detract from His Son
and His point of view

The secret of contentment
          is Divine Will
The secret of contentment
          is Divine Purpose
The secret of contentment
          is Divine Appointment

True contentment
does not come from
merely living
without giving
nor does not come from gifted hands
and recognition
It does not come from brilliant genius
and visions grand
or from visionaries of this worldly land

True contentment comes from
Being in the Will of God
So that whatever circumstances are yours
You know that God is the one
Who has promised to see you to safe shores

True contentment comes from
          Knowing your Purpose
We all want to know why we are here
It’s not always as easy
as it first appears
We flint this way and that
we think we’ve got it all down pat
We spend years seeking success
only to find it doesn’t serve God’s best

True contentment comes from
           Knowing you’re being lead
by the Holy Spirit you’re being fed
He leads you to divine appointments
whether through storms
or on mountain tops of anointment

The learning is in the letting go
The truth is that sometime we still hold on
to things that become our foe
The secret here is never give up
Never stop letting go
until you rest in
           the Will of God
           the Purpose of God and
           the Appointment of God

until you stand firm in the Lord
and all that is left in you cannot be shaken
and you can say I’ve learned
to be content in EVERY situation
