Brief History of NRCC

North River Community Church began as a movement of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of a handful of people in the summer of 1989.  A Steering Committee of ten members prayed and planned, sensing the tremendous need for more churches presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ and the need to reach out to the growing number of unchurched people.

With Paul Atwater as the founding pastor, that group of ten became seventy-five people who attended our first worship service on September 3, 1989.  We met in a few classrooms in the Pembroke Community Center for six months.  From 1990 to 2003, North River met in a storefront in the Corporate Park office center.  The church grew from 75 to 400 during those years, as we aimed at introducing spiritual seekers to the purposes of God.  Our current church home at 334 Old Oak Street, Pembroke was completed in the spring of 2003 on 44.2 acres that were donated by the Tedeschi Realty Company. The church family has grown from 400 to 600 from more than 40 towns across the South Shore since moving to Old Oak Street.
